Dr. Gery Anderson will be presenting on the fascinating life and work of John Lapsley. John Lapsley was born in Selma in 1915 and began exploring the the visual arts at an early age. His studies and travel took him all over the world and as he explored the world around him, he recorded what he saw and experienced in many artistic media. The show will include works in oil, watercolor, fresco, pencil and pastel as well as examples of seriography and monoprinting. Some friends who knew John personally will recount their personal interactions with him.

Scott Hunter Speaker-Former UA QB and Green Bay Packers QB: After being named a high school All American, Scott played Quarterback for the University of Alabama, where he set numerous passing records for Bear Bryant. The Green Bay Packers drafted him. During his NFL career, he also played with Buffalo, Atlanta, and Detroit, passing for a career total of 4,756 yards and 23 touchdowns. He returned to Alabama as a sportscaster for 20 years before becoming an investment broker.

Get Fit Selma! McRae-Gaines Fitness Festival is a community-wide health festival with a 5K Run, Community Fun Run & Walk; an interactive fitness and exercise expo; a Let’s Move Kids! Challenge and healthy food options. Entrance to the Health Screenings, Health Fair, and Interactive Expo will be free. The Get Fit Selma! Defeat Diabetes 5K Run/Walk, Community Fun Run/Walk and Healthy Food Happening will include small fees to cover expenses.
The focus for our 5th Annual Health & Fitness Festival is Diabetes and how vulnerable it makes all of us to other diseases like high blood pressure, vascular and heart disease, cancer and even mental instability and dementia. Did you know that Selma’s youth are being diagnosed as early as 14 years with Type II Diabetes?

Road to Freedom Wagon Tour
