This year featuring music from Dallas County's own Charlie Argo! Complete with games and events that are fun for all ages. The day will end with a fireworks spectacular sponsored by the City of Valley Grande. 

Internship Closing Ceremony

Selma, AL, July 28, 2016: You are invited to attend the Closing Ceremony for the 1st Connie Tucker Social Justice Internship on Sunday, July 31, 2016, beginning at 1:30 p.m. The ceremony will honor 9 interns who have lived and worked in Selma and engaged in youth and community work for 5 weeks. In particular, they have implemented Project GROW in Selma and Montgomery which is a grassroots organization project. The interns are from Rhode Island and Alabama cities and include college students, high school students and community youth workers. The internship was initiated by the Selma Center for Nonviolence and the Bridge Crossing Jubilee to honor the life and work of Connie Tucker who helped start and grow the National Voting Rights Museum, the Bridge Crossing Jubilee and the Selma Tracking Movement. Your attendance would demonstrate your gratitude for Ms. Tucker and the 9 interns who are carrying on her legacy and work. One Selma: Mayoral Debate/Forum

"Submit your questions for the Mayoral Debate/ Forum June 12-30, 2016.

 

We are soliciting questions from the Faith Community for the upcoming mayoral debate/forum that will be held Sunday, July 31, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in the Selma High School Auditorium. The debate forum will be moderated by Mr. Darryl Hood, WAKA newscaster. All five mayoral candidates have agreed to be present. The questions submitted will be used to guide the discussion and be asked of the mayoral candidates.

 

The mayoral candidates are:

 

Mayor George Evans

Former Mayor, Rev. James Perkins

Minister Jerria Martin

Councilman Greg Blejke

Rep. Darrio Melton

 

To ensure no candidate has an advantage, Dr. Bridgett A. King, Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Auburn University has agreed to assist us and provide administrative support for question submission. Dr. King, will be the person with access to the questions prior to the debate. Dr. King will go through them to remove any language that is inflammatory and/or biased. Duplicate questions will also be removed.

 

You may submit questions from June 12-30, 2016. The questions will go directly to Dr. King and be used in preparation for the mayoral debate/forum. If you would like to address a specific question to a candidate, please do so.

Economy

Crime

Education

Infrastructure

City Services

Communities and neighborhoods
